Bee's Wrap: Plastic-Free Kitchen Wrap

A sustainable alternative to plastic film

Bee's Wrap was founded in 2012 by Sarah Kaeck. Sarah, a Vermonter, is a mother of three who wanted to remove plastic waste from her kitchen in a healthy and sustainable way. By looking back to a time before plastic, Sarah discovered that by coating organic cotton with beeswax, organic jojoba oil and tree resin, she could create a washable, reusable and compostable alternative to plastic wrap: Bee's Wrap.

A lost tradition rediscovered

Impregnating fabrics with beeswax has a long history. In the recent past, however, this has been somewhat forgotten - even though it has numerous advantages. Sarah Kaeck recognised this and made use of this old knowledge to develop a contemporary product with Bee's Wrap.

Bee's Wrap combats plastic in the kitchen

Plastic is everywhere in the modern kitchen. Used for clingfilm for packaging and keeping food fresh, it is almost impossible to imagine everyday life without it. However, this excessive use of plastic is extremely bad for the environment and plastic is often suspected of being harmful to health. Substances that are controversial from a health point of view, such as plasticisers, can be released into food. So there are good reasons not to use plastic - especially in the kitchen. But what could it be replaced with?

This bothered Sarah Kaeck, so she revived an old process and invented an innovative product to declare war on plastic in the kitchen.

The recipe for success for this mother of three from Vermont is as simple as it is effective: by treating cotton with beeswax, organic jojoba oil and tree resin, she succeeded in developing a washable, reusable and sustainable alternative to plastic film. This makes a valuable contribution to protecting the environment and has numerous other advantages:

  • Bee's Wrap is malleable and can be adapted to a wide variety of foods to optimally enclose them.
  • Since the beeswax and jojoba oil have antibacterial properties, Bee's Wrap is a particularly hygienic way of storing food.
  • Food can be safely and hygienically sealed in Bee's Wrap by heating and cooling.
  • With proper care, Bee's Wrap can be reused for up to a year.
  • The great designs make it a visually pleasing addition to any kitchen.
