Westland "Smart Green" New Sowing Lawn Seed Mix

This seed-fertiliser mixture is perfect for new planting or the revitalisation of resilient ornamental, sports and play lawns. The combination of particularly long-lasting types of lawn grass in a unique protective cover with a precisely calculated amount of starter fertiliser creates a lush green lawn in just one sowing - whether as a new plant or to fill out thinned areas of lawn.

Usage:

Sow between April and October. The rainier weeks in spring between April and May or in early autumn from mid-September to mid-October are optimal. It should be noted that germination is most likely in a permanent soil temperature of over 10 degrees. Deep shade is generally unsuitable for lawns.

1. Preparation:
To create a new lawn, loosen the soil thoroughly, remove coarse stones, moss and weeds and use the rake to ensure that the surface is as finely crumbed as possible. Compensate for holes and other unevenness. If it is dry, water the soil thoroughly the day before sowing. However, waterlogging should be avoided.

If thinned areas of lawn are to be provided with a denser lawn, no thorough soil cultivation is necessary. It is sufficient to mow the lawn briefly and to lightly scarify it.

2. Sowing:
For a good distribution of the different sized seeds and fertiliser grains, shake the contents well before use. Spread the seed-fertiliser mixture evenly. For a seamless transition to any existing lawn, spread the seeds over the newly created area.

For the new lawn, sprinkle Smart Green evenly after preparing the ground (application rate: 25g/m²). Good ground contact is important for optimal germination, so first carefully rake Smart Green (no deeper than 1cm) into the soil. Lightly roll or step on the sprinkled surfaces.

For denser grass in thinned areas of lawn: After you have slightly scarified the area, simply sow Smart Green between the existing grass. Application rate: 20g/m². Lightly roll or step on the sprinkled surfaces. For the use of a spreader, you will find the appropriate setting in the instructions for use of the device.

3. After sowing:
Irrigation: Very important! Water the surfaces carefully, but extensively, with a fine rose or a sprinkler. Make sure that the lawn seeds are not washed away. Don't let it dry out in the following weeks. If this should happen, the water stored in the Aqua-Gel can compensate for the deficit for a certain period of time (depending on the weather and soil conditions).

Mowing: Freshly emerged lawn should only be mowed from a height of approx. 8cm to approx. 5-6 cm, later to 3-5 cm. Also, do not cut the lawn too much during the summer heat and dry periods.

Fertilisation: The starter fertiliser contained in Smart Green works for approx. 5 weeks, depending on the weather. Westland Smart & Safe lawn fertiliser should be applied regularly 2-3 days after the second cut. This promotes a dense turf and lush green colour.
