Description
Sinapis alba, commonly known as white mustard, is an annual cruciferous plant that is ideal for use as green manure. It enriches the soil with nutrients, aids in loosening it, and can be sown late in the growing season. When planted densely, it suppresses weed growth and helps protect the soil from erosion. The mustard oils produced by the plant prevent nematode infestation and positively influence bacterial and fungal activity in the soil. Additionally, its flowers are a valuable source of pollen and nectar.
It is important to note that white mustard should never be grown immediately before or after other cruciferous plants, such as cabbage. A cultivation break of at least four years is recommended.
