Description
This good, old variety is from Chioggia, Italy. It impresses with striking red and white stripes that it retains even after cooking. The beets are particularly delicate and pleasantly sweet. They do not have the typical earthy beetroot flavour. Enjoy a rich harvest of beautiful, large, spherical, deep red beets. The beets are sure to catch your eye on veggie trays, in stews, in potato salads- or in juice. The young leaves can be used as a salad, the older leaves can be used like chard. The young beets are considered a delicacy.
Planting: from April to the end of June. For storage, plant from mid-May on.
Space the rows at 30 cm, later thin to 7-10 cm in the row - do not transplant!
Harvest: Harvest about 2 months after sowing. Plant from mid-July to the end of September. If you'd like to store the beets, harvest in late autumn until about mid-November. Harvest before the first frost. Take the leaves off and store in sand in a frost-free place.
