Saflax Bonsai - Chinese Juniper

This robust outdoor bonsai forms a richly branched crown and can be shaped well thanks to the flexible branches. It is popular with beginners and professionals alike and can be made in all styles with the exception of the broom.

Useful information

The Chinese juniper originates from eastern China and Japan's rocky sea coasts. It is found at altitudes of up to 2300 metres.

Our tips:

• Before sowing, stratify seeds in a bowl of sand in the freezer for two weeks to increase germination
• Cover the seed pots with foil and make holes in them so that the soil does not dry out
• Remove foil for two hours every two to three days to prevent mould growth
• Keep potting soil moist but not wet
• Ideal germination temperature: 20 to 25°C
• Water regularly during the growth phase, but always allow the soil to dry out first
• Overwinter in as bright a spot as possible - water regularly and protect from excessive frost
