Description

These Hokkaido pumpkins are tastier and higher yielding than their orange cousins. The rind softens when cooked and can be eaten. It can be used in soups, veggie dishes and desserts. The climbing variety grows lots of pumpkins. The plants need many nutrients, so it is best to plant them on composted soil.

Planting:

  • Soak the seeds overnight at the end of April / beginning of May. Plant individually in pots. Pre-grow in your home. Do not keep too the air too moist as the seeds can rot. Plant outdoors after the last frost. Plant 2x2.
  • Harvest after the first frost after mid-September. The pumpkins are ripe when the stalks are wrinkled. Do not store too cold (> 8 degrees C).
