Description
Many plants that are related to the egg tree are grown in the tropics as vegetable plants. The egg tree belongs to the eggplant species. It grows 40 to 50 cm high, has 3 to 5 cm tall, light blue or intense red-violet flowers and has oval leaves. After flowering, small balls grow on the plant that soon look similar to chicken eggs. This is where the plants get their name. After a while, the fruit turns yellow-orange and finally violet. The egg tree is an ornamental plant.
