Giant bamboo technically belongs to the grass family and grows at a record speed. In humid and warm areas of the tropics, it grows 3 to 4 cm per day. It is also often planted in parks, is dull green and grows narrow elongated leaves.

The giant bamboo is a diverse crop. Its diameter is about 3 cm and is used to make water pipes, bridges, houses and scaffolding. The bamboo flowers after several decades and then dies aboveground.
