Description
The Dawn Redwood is considered a fossil among trees and can grow up to 50 m tall. It was long thought to be extinct and was only rediscovered in China in 1948.
Our tips:
- Stratify seeds before sowing - place in a plastic bag in the refrigerator for one week
- Then let the seeds soak in lukewarm water for two days
- Light germinator - do not cover seeds with soil, but only press them down lightly
- Cover the cultivation container with cling film and provide air holes to protect the soil from drying out
- Remove the film every two to three days for about two hours to prevent mould formation
- Place the cultivation container in a bright and warm place at 15 to 20°C
- Keep the soil surface moist but not wet
- Grows into a large tree - be sure to take this into account when planting out and choosing a location!
- Water sufficiently in dry summer months, as the tree is not deep-rooted
- Dip young plants in water once a week until the root ball is saturated
- Frost-resistant down to -32°C; however, only once the trunk has lignified up to a height of 15 cm in the lower area
