Tobacco is an annual plant that can be divided into two subtypes: tabacum and rustica. The 1.5-1.8 meter high perennial is native to South America and is cultivated in many areas of the tropics and subtropics. In autumn, the leaves are harvested as soon as they turn yellow. The leaves are hung up to dry and later fermented, which is how they develop their flavour. The beautiful plants grow pink flowers and are considered easy-care ornamental plants.
